EU Sustainable & Smart Mobility Strategy

Cargo bikes included!

Brussels 10 December 2020 The importance of cycle logistics has been recognised in the EU Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. The strategic document that will guide EU policy on transport and mobility up to 2030 explicitly mentions cargo bikes as a solution for urban logistics.

This is a very important achievement for the cargo bike and cycle logistics sector as it finally gives our sector status. This will have an impact on future EU decisions on policies at urban level and it can influence the allocation of EU funding. Cargo bikes are part of the strategy and will play a more and more important role at EU level decision-making.

Cargo Bikes & Cycle Logistics Experts' Group - CIE/ECLF Partnership in Action

2020 has been a good year for cargo bikes and cycle logistics. The partnership between ECLF and Cycle Industries Europe (CIE) - formed in Dublin at the June 2019 ECLF Conference - has borne fruit. We have all the leading lights in cargo bikes and cycle logistics working together in the Cargo Bikes & Cycle Logistics Experts' Group. In 2020, CBCLEG has participated fully in the creation of industry standards for cargo bikes, through our seat at the table of Working Group 9 (Cargo Bikes) of CEN Technical Committee 333 (Cycles). We have conducted the first ever Market Survey of the cargo bike industry. We have polled cargo bike operators on safety (yes, cargo bikes are safe!). We expect 2021 to be even busier and for there to be even faster growth in cargo bikes and cycle logistics.

Cycle Logistics Industry Survey 2016 (Aug 2016)
